
MY STORY
It started ten years ago with a simple problem: the boards I wanted to ride weren't available locally. So I started shaping my own.
To fund it, I began doing ding repairs — for the local surf community and a local surf shop. That work paid for the boards I was building for myself: fishes, mini Simmons, midlengths, longboards. Around 30 of them over the years, each one shaped, tested, surfed, and tweaked for my own level and for North Sea conditions.
That process — building, riding, adjusting, building again — is where the real learning happened.
Then friends started riding my boards. They asked for their own. Word spread, and soon people I'd never met were asking for customs too. The feedback from surfers whose opinion I trusted pushed me to raise my own bar.
That's still the idea behind Wabi Sabi Surf: share the stoke of board building, and help each customer end up on their magic board — shaped around their skill level, their local break, and how they want it to look.


Materials: choosing what's right for you
There's a lot of misunderstanding in the surf community about materials — what's "better" often just depends on what someone's used to, not what actually works for a given board or surfer.
Over the past 10 years, I've tested most of what the industry uses. Cores: polyurethane foam, extruded polystyrene, balsa wood. Laminations: various fiberglass weights, and carbon fiber. Not just built — surfed, at home and abroad, across a wide range of constructions.
Every material and combination has trade-offs. There's no single "best" — only what's best for your weight, your level, your local waves, and how you want the board to flex and perform.

Finding your board
A diverse quiver means more time in the water — especially in a place like the North Sea, where conditions swing so much. The day I started riding longboards, I realized how much fun was possible in waves I'd never have paddled out on with a shorter board.
I don't work from a fixed lineup of models. Instead, I have a range of templates from 5 to 10 foot, each one adjustable — rocker, rail, bottom contour — based on years of testing different combinations in our local waves. I know which shapes work in what conditions here.
So rather than picking a board off a spec sheet, we talk it through: your skill level, your style, the waves you actually surf. That conversation is how we land on the board that's right for you.

REPAIRS
After 10+ years repairing surfcraft, I've done and seen it all — broken noses, snapped boards, cracked glass around fins, popped fin boxes, ripped-out leash plugs. Surfboards, windsurf boards, kitesurf boards, SUPs, foilboards — in every construction and material: epoxy, polyester, carbon fiber, fiberglass, PU, EPS, sandwich construction.
My aim is always the same: get as close as possible to the board's original construction, so the repair doesn't compromise its weight or structural integrity. You get your board back the way it was the day you bought it — ready for many more years in the water.
